BRIDGETON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- The Bridgeton city council approved spending $26,000 to tear down two houses damaged in last year's Good Friday tornado.
The homeowners had abandoned the properties without making repairs or replacing the condemned structures.
More than 500 homes and businesses in Bridgeton were damaged when an EF4 tornado roared through north St. Louis County on April 22, 2011. Most property owners whose homes were damaged have either made repairs or rebuilt.
Mayor Conrad Bowers said he is not critical of the homeowners, but said the house's posed a safety risk to the public.
