WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV) – Authorities are investigating after two bodies were found less than three weeks apart along Interstate 64 in Washington County, Illinois.
Authorities said the first body, identified as 29-year-old Kelving Swingler, was found September 23 on the southbound side of the interstate at mile marker 40 near Okawville.
According to police, Swingler, a St. Louis resident, was reported missing by his mother on August 25. Police said they were investigating his death as a homicide.
The second body was found by Illinois state worker Tuesday in the same vicinity as Swingler. Illinois State Police said they were working towards identifying the body and following up on new leads.
One witness told News 4 was body was discovered just a few feet from the roadway, where the shoulder turns to grass.
An autopsy on the second body was scheduled to be performed Wednesday. Officials said they planned to release more details after the autopsy was complete.
Authorities did not confirm whether they believe the bodies were connected.
Several different agencies are now assisting in the investigation, including the St. Louis Police Department.
