(KMOV) – News 4 was there for a big drug bust in Franklin County when nearly 100 pot plants were pulled from a home in a quiet neighborhood on Thursday.

News 4 was told because of a backlog at the state crime lab, it’ll likely be months before the suspects get in front of a judge.

“You could actually smell the raw marijuana just standing out on the porch,” said Detective Tom Murley.

Worried the plants will again fall into the wrong hands, deputies asked News 4 not to disclose where the plants were being held.

It’s all now evidence in a case against a Franklin County married couple in their 50’s.

“We think this was going on for a few years,” Det. Murley said.

Worse, detectives say, with this amount, it was pretty clear the suspects were selling it into the local community.

“It’s going to work its way down to individuals and kids in schools,” Detective Murley said.

After detectives cleared the scene, News 4 went to the house where it all went down but were told by a woman who answered the door that they have no comment.  Neighbors nearby say they’re shocked.

“They are just nice people, we have lived here 30 years and we would never have expected anything.”

Once dry, all the evidence will be taken to the state crime and after the case is over,.it will go up in smoke, in an incinerator.

News 4 will continue to follow this case.
