(KMOV) -- Raw sewage has flooded an apartment complex in Belleville and residents say the landlord is not helping fix the situation.

“We can’t live like this,” resident Larry Thurman said. “I don’t have anywhere else to go. My wife and I have nowhere to go.”

Thurman had to bag all his belongings in in trash bags to protect them from the sewage, filled with feces and urine, that is slowly flowing toward his apartment.

“Every time someone would flush the toilet, the sewage would come up,” said one tenant. “And it’s all in my house.”

Residents say they have tried to contact the building’s landlord for help, but he says he isn’t doing anything because some of the tenants are behind on rent.
