(KMOV) -- The Alorton Fire Chief says many of the recent outbreaks of fires in the Metro East, especially Alorton, are very suspicious.

“We had one fire where three structures right alongside each other (were on fire),” said Alorton Fire Chief DeMario Douglas when asked about the possibility of someone intentionally starting fires. “It’s possible.”

However, Douglas does say that many people are leaving their fires unattended right now. “I don’t think there’s a fire bug running around here…right now.”

“It’s frustrating,” said Charles Stewart, a resident of Alorton. “Especially out here is Alorton. There is a lot of stuff getting burned down around here and they seem to not know what’s going on.”

According to fire officials, seven suspicious fires at vacant buildings have occurred in Alorton alone, all of which are still being investigated by the Fire Marshall.
