(KMOV.com) — Some residents are asking if city police redistricting is really making them safer, especially in St. Louis' most violent neighborhoods.

Alderman Antonio French says there needs to be more officers specifically in the sixth district.

This comes after another shooting near a childcare facility in his district.

“They picked up a lot of area and were only given a few new officers, so what I’m worried about as the weather is getting warm, more crime is occurring, I worry if the sixth district will have enough resources to police the area” French said.

Chief Sam Dotson doesn't agree.

“I know some people would like to see more officers. Absolutely. Everybody would like to see more officers,” he said. “But with the resources we have, which I think are enough, we put them in the areas they need to be."
