EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – An abandoned warehouse caught fire in East St. Louis on Friday, sending billowing smoke into the air that could be seen for miles.
The fire broke out at a warehouse near the intersection of 9th and Lynch around 2:30 p.m.
Thick, black smoke from the fire could be seen for at least 10 miles in each direction. The fire continued to burn for hours, intensifying as flames engulfed the building.
East St. Louis fire crews were still battling the blaze around 5 p.m.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
No injuries were reported.
