(KMOV.com) -- Two men have been charged with murder after Madison County Police said they found the body of a missing woman near the Illinois River in Green County.

Alton Police discovered the body of Courtney Coats, 31, near the Joe Page Bridge in East Hardin, Illinois.

Police said Coats was strangled and had her throat slit.

Authorities charged Patrick Chase, who police said was the live-in boyfriend of Coats’, and his friend Brandon Chittum with first degree murder, dismembering a human body and concealment of a homicidal death.

According to police, both suspects could face the maximum prison sentence.
