(KMOV) -- One person was killed and several others were injured in two gang-related drive-by shootings in Washington Park Wednesday evening.
Police say at least two people were outside a building at 46th and Hallows around 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and opened fire.
A second shooting took place moments later at 48th and Caseyville, where a 17-year-old victim was severely injured in another drive-by shooting.
An unidentified person attempted to drive the 17-year-old to an area hospital, but was pulled over for speeding at Route 161 and Dutch Hollow.
Police say the victim was already deceased when officers got to the vehicle.
The other victims, believed to be in their 20s, were transported to an area hospital, where one of them was in surgery.
Their conditions were unknown as of 11 a.m. Thursday.
Police believe both shooting were part of a retaliation. The suspects were believed to be in a black Avenger SUV.
Authorities shut down Route 161 during the investigation, but all lanes have since reopened.
Illinois State Police were leading the investigation with the help of the East St. Louis Police Department and Washington Park Police Department.
