(KMOV) -- A fire in an RV park in St. Charles killed one man and injured a deputy Saturday morning.
According to police, a trailer on Cactus Drive caught fire just before 7:00 a.m with a man trapped inside.
A county deputy, who lived two blocks from the trailer park, rushed to the scene and made several attempts to rescue the victim.
The deputy needed medical attention because he was hit with heavy smoke during the rescue attempts.
After firefighters arrived at the scene and smothered the flames, it was discovered the owner of the RV had died.
Investigators determined smoking started the fire.
