(KMOV.com) –Two suspects face charges after an officer shot one of them following a robbery at a north St. Louis McDonald’s restaurant Wednesday night.
Deonte Phillips, 21, and Johnny Phillips, 22, were both charged Thursday with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. Deonte Phillips was also charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
According to police, Deonte Phillips walked into the McDonald’s at the intersection of Natural Bridge and Kingshighway around 8:15 p.m. and made an employee open all the cash registers.
Several witnesses ran to a neighboring Walgreens and informed a police officer there about the robbery. The officer and a security guard ran next door and went inside. Deonte Phillips fled the scene and jumped a nearby fence.
Officers responded to the 4900 block of San Francisco, where they found Deonte Phillips running west with a gun in his hand.
The officers chased Deonte, who turned around and pointed a gun towards them. He refused to drop his weapon and officers opened fire, hitting Deonte several times. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition. His gun, two fully loaded magazine clips and money was recovered.
Meanwhile, police say Johnny Phillips was in a getaway car and fled the initial scene with his headlights off going north on Kingshighway.
An officer saw the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but Johnny Phillips sped off. The officer pursued the vehicle until it crashed on Arlington Ave. Johnny Phillips tried fleeing but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
Both suspects’ bonds were set at $500,000, cash-only.
