(KMOV.com) – A Metro-East man now faces additional charges after police say they discovered meth during his booking for an unrelated crime on Monday.

James D. Weis Jr., 31, of Waterloo, was charged Monday with felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in a traffic crash causing great bodily harm according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

On Monday, September 9, 2013, a St. Clair County Deputy responded to 2947 Ranch Trail Road in Waterloo, in an attempt to locate Weis Jr. concerning a crash that was under investigation.

Weis Jr. was taken into custody for the alcohol-related accident that occurred on June 5, 2013, in the unincorporated area of Millstadt.

Both Weis Jr. and the other driver were transported to an area hospital following the crash.  The investigation remained active pending lab results.

After being transported to the St. Clair County Jail in Belleville, investigators say the deputy found him to be in possession of meth during a routine search.

Weis Jr. received an additional charge of felony possession of meth under 5 grams.

A St. Clair County Judge set Weis’ bond at $100,000.
