ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Authorities issued a warning to people in the St. Louis area Tuesday about charity scams.

Some are concerned that Ferguson could become a target. If you feel pressured to give to a charity on the spot or if you are pressured to give cash instead of a check, it should be a red flag.

“If they’re legitimate and want your donation, they’ll take it next week, they’ll take it next year. They’ll take it after you’ve had the time to make sure it’s the right cause for you,” said Timothy Boyer with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office.
