ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- George Thomas said he come home from his family vacation to find his Granite City home’s back door wide open. Everything of value, including 4 flat screen TV’s were taken, he said.

Just before Thomas and his family left for vacation, he said a woman stopped by his home. The only person there at the time was his wife.

“She came and knocked on the door with no credentials saying she was from Ameren, talking about ways to lower the power bill. She said she was hot and parched and she needed something to drink,” said Thomas.

Ameren Illinois officials said they do not have employees that go door to door. They should only stop by for a scheduled appointment and Ameren employees will wear their ID’s at all times.

Granite City police confirmed they arrested two men, for breaking into multiple homes in the neighborhood the Thomas family lives. Police said they are still investigating, but have no reason to believe those suspects are connected to this case.
