(KMOV) – Two suspects have been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old woman and stabbing of a man at a Granite City gas station early Sunday morning.
Breanna D. Maldonado, 18, was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death of Kaitlin N. Juenger, 20, of Collinsville, Illinois.
Antonio M. Carlin, 18, was charged with aggravated battery.
According to authorities, officers with the Granite City Police Department responded to a disturbance in the parking lot of Quik Trip, located in the 2159 block of Madison Avenue in Granite City.
Upon arrival, officers found Juenger and a second victim, Hugo Valenzuela, in the parking lot. According to authorities, both victims had been stabbed during an altercation.
Following the altercation, the suspects fled the scene but were caught a short time later by police.
Juenger and Valenzuela were transported to Gateway Medical Center. Juenger was later pronounced.
Valenzuela was airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
Maldonado and Carlin remain in custody at Granite City Police headquarters until they are transported later Monday evening to the Madison County Jail.
Bond for Carlin has been set at $50,000. Maldonado is being held without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Funeral arrangements for Juenger are pending at the Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Illinois.
