(KMOV.com) – Two men are facing charges after they allegedly stole a car, led police on a chase, and operated a meth lab out of the back of a car.

Daniel Benton, 36, of Union, and Mitchel Peck, 37, of Kansas City have been charged with tampering with a motor vehicle, felony resisting arrest, and drug trafficking.

Police said both suspects stole a car from the parking lot of a MotoMart store in the 200 block of S. Bishop Avenue in Rolla Thursday morning, before leading police on a chase on Highway 72. Authorities said the suspects got out of their car in the 13000 block of Highway 72 and attempted to flee on foot, but were quickly caught.

After a short investigation, police determined both suspects had been operating a meth lab out of the back of the car and had been producing meth at a local hotel.

Benton and Peck are being held at the Phelps County Jail.
