OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Two St. Louis, Mo., men who were arrested after nearly 24 pounds of cocaine were found in their vehicle have been formally sentenced.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Thursday a federal judge sentenced Julius Turrentine to 20 years in prison and gave Jimmie Johnson a term of 15 years and one month on a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine.
The men were stopped on Interstate 44 near Stroud Nov. 23. Authorities say a drug-sniffing dog detected narcotics inside the vehicle and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers found it between the vehicle’s engine compartment and the firewall.
A jury convicted Turrentine in March, and Johnson pleaded guilty in February.
Attorneys for the men didn’t immediately return messages left after hours.
