(KMOV) – Police are warning residents about a scam that’s hit west St. Louis County.
Town and Country police say several people have been called and told they’ve won $1 million and a Mercedes in a sweepstakes.
But in order to get the winnings, they need to send money on a Green Dot prepaid debit card to pay the taxes.
After one person sent $400, police began sending out alerts about a scam. Police say Green Dot debit cards are legit, but raise less suspicion than having the victim wire the money.
