(KMOV.com) – Police said thieves used a window unit air conditioner to break into a home in Webster Groves.

Authorities said the break in occurred in the 700 block of north Elm. Authorities said the thieves pushed the window unit air conditioner out of the way, crawled through, and stole band equipment worth $3,000.

Experts told News 4 a window unit that is installed properly is safe from a break in.

“They come with these preset holes that are manufactured into the installation of it,” said Jake Waterkottle with Slyman Brothers Appliances. “And if you take three screws and you pop it into the window and that way there is no way they could push it through.”

Experts also said consumers can buy clips at the hardware store that attach above an open window that can prevent it from going higher.
