(KMOV) – Police are investigating after someone stole valuable decorative heads that were going to be displayed at the City Museum in downtown St. Louis, the museum tweeted on Friday.

According to museum officials, several terra cotta theatre faces were stolen from the Sun Theater between July 12 and July 22. Authorities said the thieves cut the locks to the construction gate and grabbed the faces, which weight between 100 and 150 pounds. Each head was valued at about $1,000.

Officials said the heads were a part of a cornice created at the Lawrence Group and Grand Center Art Academy. They were discovered missing before the museum could pick up the pieces and put them together.

City Museum officials said 10 of the decorative heads were later found. Six of them were headed to the City Museum, officials said.
