Jefferson County (KMOV) – A 16-year-old from High Ridge is in custody after he attempted to rob a gas station and the clerk trapped him in a bathroom Friday morning.

Police said the suspect entered the BP Gas Station in the 100 block of Old Sugar Creek Road at 1:40 a.m., walked up to the clerk and raised a knife. The 64-year-old clerk had a small caliber pistol on him when the suspect approached him.

A physical struggle ensued between the clerk and suspect. The clerk was cut on the hand and had a bump on the head after the altercation. Authorities said the gun was discharged but no one was hit.

The clerk locked the suspect in the men’s bathroom until police arrived on the scene.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody and is now at a juvenile detention facility.

The BP gas station was also the scene of an armed robbery on July 8. Police said a suspect walked into the gas station carrying a butcher knife and told the clerk “it’s not personal” before making the clerk open the cash drawer.

No arrest has been made in the earlier robbery.
