EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- An East St. Louis man heading for work Friday morning found the body of a 19-year-old shooting victim on the ground in his backyard.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that police received a call about shots fired and a man down Thursday night. They checked the area but didn't find anyone.
East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore says the body of Lee Morton was found Friday morning and was connected to the Thursday night report. Morton is the city's 19th murder victim this year.
Illinois State Police investigators are assisting with the case.
