SWANSEA, Ill. (KMOV)—Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding a homeless man accused of sexually abusing a young girl on Sunday in Swansea.

Officers say Cedric Pollard, 50, is wanted for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a girl who is under the age of 10. An arrest warrant has been issued charging him with probation violation after a residential burglary in Cahokia.

“I really didn’t know what to think or to say, it just kind of scared me for the kids in the neighborhood,” said Don Stogner, a neighbor in the area.

The incident allegedly took place Sunday in the 1700 block of Barbary Way.

Police believe Sunday evening, Pollard made inappropriate sexual contact with a young girl at a home.

“When the adults were told by another child they reported to us,” said Swansea Police Chief Michael Arnold. “[They] tried to keep him in the residence for us to arrive, but he took off.”

News 4 located the home where the alleged incident took place. The homeowner tells us that the alleged victim, a five-year-old girl, is a friend of the family - she doesn’t live there. And that the suspect is a relative of the homeowner.

Pollard is described as a black male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is approximately five feet, five inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

Pollard was last seen on foot in the area of Sullivan Drive and Llewellyn Road at approximately 7 p.m. He was last seen wearing blue shorts and a black tank top.

Police say Pollard’s lack of a residence will make tracking him down difficult, and that’s why they are reaching out to the public.

“If this were somebody where we knew where he lived, had a permanent address, we wouldn’t be reporting to the public this early,” said Arnold. “And the fact that it’s such a young child, too, we want to get this subject off the streets as quickly as possible.”

Police say the little girl was taken to the hospital and is doing ok. The homeowner declined to come on camera but said he is unsure where pollard might be.

His bail has been set at $50,000.

Contact the Swansea Police Department at 618-233-8114 if you have any information that may help locate this suspect.
