(KMOV) – A man was arrested after he fled from police after authorities pulled him over for a traffic violation at the intersection of State Route 157 and California Drive in Caseyville.

According to police, an officer with the Caseyville Police Department stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Thursday. Police say while being pulled over, the suspect, Richard Malone Jr., admitted to authorities he had marijuana in his car.

The officer also discovered Malone was driving on a suspended license. Before the officer could take Malone into custody, he fled the stop and almost hit the officer.

Caseyville officers pursued Malone into Washington Park, but then pulled over and surrendered on westbound Interstate 64 at the 25th Street ramp.

Malone was taken into custody. There were no injuries reported.

Bond is set at $30,000.
