(KMOV) – Authorities said a woman was arrested in connection with stealing money from an elderly woman outside a St. Charles Walmart in late June.

Police said Tracy Mechelle Jennings of St. Peters was charged Tuesday with felony stealing.

Authorities said an 83-year-old woman was shopping at the Walmart in the 2800 block of Veteran’s Memorial Pkwy. around 6:30 p.m. on June 28 when she was approached by a man and Jennings.

Police said Jennings told the victim she would help her shop and told the man to go back to the car and listen to music.

Jennings allegedly helped the victim pick out some items and they went to the checkout lanes and paid.

Police said she then helped load groceries into the woman’s car. The woman told police she leaned into her backseat to grab a can of beans and when she turned around the suspect was gone.

That’s when the victim noticed her wallet was missing. Police said it contained several hundred dollars, the victim’s driver’s license and personal papers.

Police said surveillance cameras caught the whole act on video.

Tracy Mechelle Jennings was jailed on a $25,000 bond.

Authorities said they were still investigating the male suspect's involvement in the crime.
