ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Surveillance videos are helping police to identify suspects in crimes and reducing murder rates.

The 21st ward of North St. Louis has seen an 80 percent decrease in murder rates since installing surveillance cameras, according to Alderman Antonio French.  The Circuit Attorney hopes other St. Louis City neighborhoods install the cameras in an effort to cut down crime.

St. Louis police say a surveillance video from a murder scene last summer has helped prosecutors charge Terronn Millett with first degree murder.

Police say the video shows Millett shooting a man numerous times at a Mobil Gas Station on Natural Bridge at Goodfellow.
