(KMOV) – A St. Charles County woman will not face time in prison after she admitted to abusing her children.

Police say Cheryl Dudley of St. Peters pleaded guilty on Wednesday and agreed to five years probation and to not have any more children.

She is the mom who police say had a loaded shotgun in her child’s crib earlier this year along with unhealthy living conditions for both her children.

Authorities say part of her probation is she must stay on birth control.

“We've got some concerns about her ability to raise children, there's no question about that. Obviously with what she just plead guilty to, but we also feel that if we can feel some structure there's some hope maybe not a large amount of hope so that provision was added so that she's not distracted from the issue at hand which is to take care what she's got to take care of,” said Tim Lohmar, St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney.

Dudley is also allowed to visit her children one hour a week and she must undergo extensive mental health care.
