(KMOV) -- Police arrested a local man after he allegedly scammed a North Carolina resident out of thousands of dollars.

“I’ve just always worked hard to do business the right way and this is the first time in twenty years I’ve been taken advantage of like this,” Zachary Guy said. “He said he was going to go around the building and pick up a forklift and would be right back to load it, and he never came back.”

Guy was visiting St. Louis from North Carolina to meet Timothy Breckenridge who owns “Breckenridge Hardwoods and Design.” However, authorities say Breckenridge has stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from customers.

“When you have a contract that is written up where the seller is also trying to protect himself from being conned, you’re not expecting to be conned by that kind of person,” said Rock Hill Police Sgt. Kevin Clinton. “However, that wasn’t the case with these.”

Rock Hill police continue to hear from victims scammed by Breckenridge and want to hear from anyone who has done business with him.

Breckenridge is currently in police custody.
