(KMOV) – A Wellston city council member faces charges after she allegedly assaulted a member of the public at a council meeting Monday night.

Helen Jackson was charged Wednesday with third-degree assault.

According to court documents, a woman was attending the Wellston City Council meeting on Monday when she began questioning why the council was going into a closed session.

Authorities said Jackson got out of her chair from behind the podium and approached the woman and grabbed her arm.

Police said woman then balled up her fist like she was going to punch the victim when officers arrived.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of a shoulder sprain.

It’s not the first time Jackson has been at the center of controversy. She allegedly threw a soda bottle at another council member at a meeting several months ago.

Jackson could also face charges for that allegation as well.

The investigation is ongoing.
