(KMOV.com) — A St. Clair, Missouri man was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of felony child abuse in a 2008 incident.

24-year-old Brandon Hill was reportedly babysitting the child, who was his girlfriend’s, on August 29 of that year.

St. Clair Police Officers and St. Clair EMS were dispatched to an apartment located in the 100 block of Crescent Lake Road in reference to an unresponsive child.

When officers arrived, they found Hill in the apartment with a 20-month-old boy who was unconscious on the floor.

Hill told officers the boy collapse and became unresponsive so he called 911.

The child was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon where he required surgery due to severe head injures.

The investigation revealed that the child had obvious signs of physical abuse and severe head trauma that was not consistent with a fall or an accident.

Hill was sentenced to five years in prison, and will also serve time for forging and cashing checks at a grocery store.
