(KMOV.com) – A  man responsible for the drive-by shooting death of a 12-year-old boy in Madison, Illinois was sentenced to 80 additional years in prison on Wednesday.

Marcus Powell, 31,was convicted in February of first-degree murder in the 2008 death of Delarrian Davis.

Authorities say the boy was in his Madison home and had just started writing a letter to the local school board when bullets sprayed his house. Davis was shot in the head.

Powell had an ongoing dispute with Davis’ mother and step-father, which led to shooting. The prosecution believes Kevin Campbell, the step-father, was the intended target.

Powell is also serving 35 years on an unrelated drug charge.
