ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Police have called the Secret Service to help investigate a theft ring that has swept through the St. Louis area.

According to Farmington Police, several cars were broken into at the end of July. Credit cards, IDs, and checks were stolen. Later in the same day, there were two similar cases in Millstadt, one at a school and another at a public pool parking lot.

Police said checks were stolen, forged, and then deposited. The thieves withdrew a portion of the cash.

“One of our victims had her checks cashed or deposited into a bank account belonging to a victim in Farmington,” said Lt. Alan Hucke with the Millstadt Police Department. “That's what caused Farmington to contact us. In a conversation with them we are learning that this is a much larger ring.”

Similar car break-ins and check forgeries have occurred in Fenton, Fairview Heights, Granite City, Bethalto, Alton, Creve Coeur and Chesterfield.
