ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- News 4 is tracking a crime problem that’s been seen elsewhere but is now popping up in St. Louis.
Customers are scamming businesses using bogus prepaid debit cards.
Recently, two businesses in the Central West End were hit by scammers using cards with zero balances.
Apparently when an authorization code is requested any number will approve the sale, but the business never gets reimbursed. Other businesses are warned to stay alert.
The company that issued the prepaid debit cards is called Netspend but the scam is not necessarily limited to that company’s cards.
