St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) – A rally was held Thursday night for a grandmother who died trying to protect her three grandchildren in a shooting that occurred Wednesday night.

Those paying respect gathered at the intersection of Hodiamont and Lotus where 46-year-old Juliette Cleveland-Davis died. Cleveland-Davis was shot in the chest around 7:45 p.m. while walking with her three grandchildren.

The victim has been identified in a shooting in north St. Louis Wednesday night.

46-year-old Juliette Cleveland-Davis of the 5900 block of Highland was shot in the chest in the 1900 block of Hodiamont around 7:45 p.m., according to police.

Officials say Cleveland-Davis was walking north on Hodiamont with her three grandchildren ages 7, 5, and 4, when two suspects starting firing shots at a group of people.

Cleveland-Davis was struck by a bullet when the group returned fire. 

Authorities say Cleveland-Davis yelled at her grand kids to run. The grand kids returned to the scene with her husband who claims Cleveland-Davis died in his arms.

Police say the victim’s grandchildren were uninjured and returned to their guardians. 

Cleveland-Davis was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. 

The investigation is ongoing.
