St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) – A 13-year veteran of the St. Louis County Police Department is in custody after allegedly assaulting a man at a MetroLink station in April.

Police have charged Dawson Gore, 44, with one count of second degree assault.

Gore is accused of assaulting a 24-year-old man on the MetroLink platform at 4300 Hanley on April 21. Authorities said Gore was involved in a verbal confrontation on the platform and struck the victim’s hand with an expandable baton.

Investigators believe the use of the baton was outside of law enforcement purpose and was used as an assault weapon.

According to authorities, the victim was taken into the platform office and held by Gore for an hour and a half. The victim also complained about a pain in his hand, but was refused medical treatment. The victim required surgery to repair broken bones in his left hand.

Police Chief Jon Belmar said he will not tolerate the use of force when it is unprovoked and outside of police department policy.

Gore was assigned to the MetroLink unit from May 2012 through April 2014.

Gore is currently being held on a $3,500 bond.
