Edwardsville, Ill. (KMOV) – Police are trying to figure out who has been firing pellets, or BBs, at cars and businesses in downtown Edwardsville.

Authorities told News 4 they believe the culprits are committing the crimes at night.  They also said they think the crimes are all random.

Edwardsville police said they are dealing with at least four cases of pellets, or BB’s, fired into downtown businesses and cars.

The owner of Bailey’s Cakes estimates it could cost her more than $1,000 to replace a store window.

“I’m sure that’s probably what it is. Kids just thinking it’s funny but they just don’t understand the destruction it causes and what it really costs people whenever they do things like that,” Laura Lynch said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
