(KMOV.com) - Police are investigating after three businesses in Sullivan were victims of smash and grab robberies over the course of one morning.

Police said thieves slammed into Wilcox Jewelers around 6:00 a.m.  Tuesday. Authorities believe the same thieves broke the glass in the front door at the Westgate Music store before stealing eight guitars. The criminals then allegedly broke into Reboot Computers before taking six laptops.

“I think they were casing windows around town, check it out, let’s see who has the most,” said Mary Wilcox, the manager of Wilcox Jewelers.

Another jewelry store employee said such crime is now becoming a problem in small towns.

“It’s everywhere, people trying to get fast dollars as much as I hate to say it, small towns have the same problems big towns to and it’s getting worse,” Jerry Thurmond with Wilcox Jewelers said.

Some people believe those responsible are stealing in order to obtain drug money. Police said they are reviewing surveillance footage in an effort to identify the suspects.
