(KMOV.com) – Police told News 4 they are close to arresting those responsible for stealing appliances from homes in St. Louis County and Jefferson County.

Police said many of the thefts have occurred near Hillsboro, Herculaneum, Festus, and Pevely in Jefferson County, and have also taken place in Des Peres and Chesterfield. Authorities said the thieves are taking dishwashers, stoves, microwaves, and tools.

A Jefferson County woman who lives near a house that was broken into said the thieves blend in because they are using trucks or trailers to haul away the stolen appliances.

“They’re used to seeing people around those and just consider them as part of workers and they just kind of blended in,” Pam Gilligan said.

Police told News 4 they have been able to return many of the stolen items to their owners in both Jefferson County and St. Clair County. Police said they may soon be filing charges against one suspect.
