(KMOV.com) – Police say they are searching for a suspect following an attempted assault on an Alton Police officer that lead to a chase into unincorporated north St. Louis County.

Police say the suspect was driving recklessly and was stopped at the intersection of Landmark and Henry in Alton for a possible DUI.

Officials say when an officer got the driver out of the truck for a field sobriety test, he pushed the officer and got back into his truck.

Police say the suspect fled into Missouri where he crashed his truck into a wooded area near a rock quarry off of 367 and Lindbergh. The driver then fled the scene on foot. The suspect’s truck was pulled out of the woods.

Police say the suspect’s truck was reported stolen out of Edwardsville on August 20. Police say they are searching for a white male, possibly in his early 50s.

St. Louis County Police say their officers assisted in the search after the crash.

Officials say two canine units were involved in the search as well as a police helicopter.

The investigation is ongoing.
