(KMOV.com) – St. Ann police captured a man after a pursuit ended in downtown St. Louis Wednesday afternoon.

Officers originally pulled the suspect over for a routine traffic stop on Interstate 70. When police approached the suspect, he fled. The suspect reportedly drove erratically, weaving in and out of traffic and striking a car.

The man then exited the interstate near downtown, leading police through several city blocks. During the downtown pursuit, he reportedly struck at least two more vehicles.

After stopping the car at 6 th Street and Cole near the Convention Center, the suspect got out and fled on foot.

Police apprehended the man after a brief foot chase. According to authorities, the man had a number of outstanding warrants and told officers he ran because he planned to go out of town with his girlfriend for the weekend and didn’t want to be in jail.
