(KMOV.com) – Police have identified a suspect who was killed after being shot by an officer in north St. Louis Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said two officers tried to stop a gray Camaro after seeing what they believed to be a drug transaction three suspects on McMillan Ave. near Fountain Park around 4 p.m.

The car fled and the officers gave chase. Police said the suspect's vehicle lost control and crashed at the intersection of Taylor and Garfield.

Authorities said 25-year-old Jared Harris exited the driver’s side of the vehicle and opened fire on the officers, hitting one of them in the foot. Police then returned fire on Harris, striking him multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police took the other two suspects, a 28-year-old male and 18-year-old male, into custody without incident. They were later questioned and released.

The 29-year-old officer who was hit was transported to the hospital in stable condition. He was released from the hospital Sunday evening.

The second officer, 47-year-old, was not injured in the incident.

Both officers are on administrative leave, per department policy.
