2 dead, 1 injured in southern Ill. bank robbery

(KMOV.com) – Police have identified two people who were stabbed to death during a bank robbery in a southern Ill. town Thursday evening.

Police identified the two victims as Anita Grace, 52, of Olive Branch, Ill. and Nita Smith, 52, of Wickliffe, Ky.

According to police, a man entered the First National Bank of Cairo through a side door at 5:15 p.m. armed with a knife and a handgun for an armed robbery. During the robbery, the suspect stabbed three employees, fatally wounding Grace and Smith, and critically injuring another.

The injured employee was transported to an area hospital and is undergoing treatment. 

The investigation is ongoing.

Cairo is located in southern Ill. approximately 150 miles from St. Louis.
