ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A police chase in St. Louis ended with a crash in Tower Grove.
The incident began with a carjacking in Jennings on Monday.
Police said officers on Tuesday spotted the stolen car parked near the intersection of Cherokee Street and Louisiana Avenue and began surveillance.
When the suspects returned to the car, police set up spike strips nearby and watched from a helicopter in the air.
Police said the suspects attempted to flee and officers pursued. After hitting the strips, the car kept speeding and eventually crashed with another car at the intersection of Spring Avenue and Utah Place.
Alissaya Mahesak, 16, said she had stopped at a stop sign when she saw the car speeding toward her.
“But he didn’t stop at all,” she said. “His car kind of spun over and hit mine and went straight to where it is now. I was shaken up and then I saw one guy ran out. “
Following the collision, the two suspects got out and fled on foot.
One suspect fled down a nearby alley. When a detective caught up to him, he struggled with the officer and attempted to take his gun.
During the struggle, the gun went off, but no one got hit.
The second suspect was captured further down the street. He also struggled with police and was struck in the face. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. He was reportedly carrying a semi-automatic gun.
Both suspects are in custody. The female driver reportedly suffered minor injuries.
