(KMOV.com) – A young woman was allegedly attacked and robbed on a very busy downtown street, and police are searching for the suspects.

The alleged attack took place near the intersection of Washington Ave. and Broadway Saturday morning.

Police said a young woman and her friend were approached by two men who asked for the victim’s phone number. When the woman refused to give her number, one of the men punched her in the face. The other man held the victim’s friend back from helping. The victim fell to the ground while the men took her purse and ran. The woman was left with a busted lip.

“[It] kind of brings up my awareness that I need to be really careful,” said one downtown pedestrian.

Even though stats indicate crime is going down, robberies downtown are spiking upward by 20 percent compared to last year around this time.
