(KMOV) – A Florissant woman faces charges after homes were damaged when she allegedly set her car on fire in a St. Louis County neighborhood in June.

Alicia Pearson, 32, was charged with knowingly burning or exploding.

Police said on June 1, Pearson parked her car in the driveway of a vacant house in the 10000 block of Viscount Dr. in the Castle Point neighborhood around 2:50 a.m.

Authorities said that’s when she started a fire in the front seat of the car. The fire then spread to two homes on each side of the vehicle.

Police said it caused about $130,000 in damage.

Authorities said Pearson later told investigators she set the fire because she had high repair costs and did not want to make any more payments on the vehicle.

She was taken into custody and released after posting a $12,500 bond.
