(KMOV) – A 40-year-old woman who initially claimed her purse was stolen faces charges after Maplewood police say she made the whole story up because she lost it when she was drunk.

Traci Granger was charged Oct. 10 with filing a false report.

According to police, Granger reported to police on Oct. 3 her purse had been stolen from her front porch in the 7200 block of Lyndover Ave. She claimed she had briefly left her porch and when she returned she saw a man running from her front yard and the purse was gone.

Investigators later talked to Granger and she admitted she lied about the story. She told officers she had lost the purse several days beforehand but could not remember where she left it because she had drunk too much alcohol.
