(KMOV.com) – Police said a suspect was shot in the leg by an officer in south St. Louis Wednesday night.

According to police,  they received a call about a suspicious car in the 6700 block of Vermont. Authorities said they stopped the vehicle before a passenger, later identified as 18-year-old Tyre Boyce, got out and wielded a weapon.

Police said an officer then shot the suspect in the leg before the suspect ran into a nearby home. Authorities said Boyce then surrendered to officers.  He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

The officer who fired his weapon, a 20-year veteran of the force, was placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

Police said no officers were injured.
