ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) – A north St. Louis County man faces charges after police said he used a brick or landscaping stone to beat his drinking buddy to death.
Arthur Cooper, 64, was charged Monday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
According to police, Cooper was drinking with 58-year-old Harvey Raspberry Saturday at a home they shared in the 2100 block of Rountree Drive.
Police said they got into an altercation around 8:30 p.m. and went outside, where they began fighting near the intersection of Redman Avenue and Fox Hall Lane.
Officers arrived to the scene after witnesses called police. That’s when they found Raspberry on the ground beaten to death. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at 9 p.m.
Police said Cooper, who was staggering away slowly from the scene, was arrested and taken into custody. His bail was set at $250,000.
It was not known what sparked the altercation.
Cooper, who did not talk to police about the incident, made an initial court appearance Monday morning.
