(KMOV) – Police say someone threw rocks from an overpass onto vehicles traveling on Interstate 55 in Festus on Sunday.

Vehicles were struck on the hood and windshield as they traveled under the Main Street overpass on Interstate 55 around 3 a.m.

In one case, a Ford Expedition had windshield damage the size of a basketball, and a female passenger was treated at a hospital after glass got into her eyes. Police found a large chunk of asphalt in the back seat.

Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis told News 4 someone could have been killed.

Police did not release any information on possible suspects.
