(KMOV) – A man faces more than a dozen charges after he allegedly stole more than $1 million from a Brentwood company his mother co-owned.

Michael Britt, 31, was charged July 1 with 12 counts of forgery and one count of stealing over $25,000.

According to court documents, Britt was working as a bookkeeper at Gene-Del Printing in June 2011 when he admitted to his mother he had stolen from the company.

An investigation revealed  that Britt had stolen more than $1 million from the company beginning in 2005 by making out checks to himself and forging names of two of the owners on them.

Authorities said Britt forged at least 166 checks between July 2010 and June 2011. Police said Britt stole $209,000 from the company in 2011 alone.

Authorities said he also stole at least $25,000 by making unauthorized purchases on a  company credit card.

Britt was arrested and confessed to the crimes. He told police he used the company’s accounting software to conceal the thefts.

His bond was set at $35,000.
